Some Ways to Keep Your Liver Healthy

The best way to fight liver disease is to avoid it whenever possible. Here are 13 tried and true ways to heal the liver! 

Maintain a healthy weight : If you are obese or even slightly overweight, you are at risk for fatty liver disease, which can lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), one of the fastest growing forms of liver disease. Weight loss can play an important role in reducing the amount of fat in the liver.

Follow a balanced diet : Avoid high-calorie foods, saturated fats, refined carbohydrates (such as white bread, white rice, and regular pasta), and sugar. Do not eat raw or undercooked shellfish. For a proper diet, eat  fiber , which you can get from fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grain breads, rice, cereals and mushrooms. Also eat  meat  (but limit red meat),  dairy  (low-fat milk and some cheese), and Fats  (the “good” fats that are both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated, such as vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, and fish). Hydration is essential, so drink plenty of water. 

Get regular exercise : If you exercise regularly, it helps burn triglycerides for fuel and can also reduce liver fat.

Avoid toxins : Toxins can damage liver cells. Limit direct contact with cleaning products, aerosol products, insecticides, chemicals, and additives. When you do use aerosols, make sure the room is ventilated and wear a mask. Do not smoke.

Be responsible with alcohol : Alcoholic beverages can cause many health problems. They can damage or destroy liver cells and damage it. Talk to your doctor about how much alcohol is right for you. You may be advised to drink alcohol only in moderation or avoid it completely.

Avoid using illegal drugs : In 2012, almost 24 million Americans aged 12 and over were current illicit drug users, meaning they had used illicit drugs in the month leading up to the survey. This estimate is 9.2 percent of the population aged 12 and over. Illicit drugs include marijuana/hashish, cocaine (including crack), heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, or prescription psychotherapies (painkillers, tranquilizers, stimulants, and sedatives) used for non-medical purposes.

Avoid contaminated needles : Of course, dirty needles are not only associated with intravenous drug use. You should consult a medical practitioner and be examined after any type of skin penetration using sharp instruments or needles. Unsafe injections, although rare, can occur in a hospital setting and require immediate monitoring. Also use only clean needles for tattoos and piercings.

Seek medical attention if you have been exposed to blood : If for any reason you come into contact with someone else’s blood, contact your doctor immediately. If you are very concerned, go to the emergency room of your nearest hospital.

Do not share personal hygiene items : For example, razors, toothbrushes, and nail clippers can contain microscopic levels of blood or other bodily fluids that can be contaminated.
